Amar Singh & Sons

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COMPANY

Amar Singh & Sons was formed in 1961 as partnership firm in Srinagar, Kashmir, India to trade in walnuts and walnut kernels.

Amar Singh & Sons established it's firm walnut processing factory in 1977 at 2 Hari Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jammu Tawi. From processing and export of 210 metric tons of walnut kernels in 1977, it processed 2450 metric tons of walnut kernels of 2007 crop, accounting for about 35% of total Indian Walnut Crop. Needless to say, Amar Singh & Sons is the largest processor and exporter of Indian Walnut Kernels.

Amar Singh & Sons has specialized only in procurement and processing of walnut kernels and since it's inception in 1961 it has dealt only in this commodity or from time to time in morels (morchella conica).

SALES - Turnover

Amar Singh & Sons accounts for over 35% of total exports of conventional walnut kernels and 75% of exports of organic walnut kernels from India. We exported about 1000 metric tons of organic walnut kernels and approximately 1500 metric tons of conventional walnut kernels of 2007 crop.

We are working with M/S Edwin Lorenz  GmbH & Co. KG , Norderstedt, Germany since 1983, who have exclusivity on our sales of organic walnut kernels.

OUR PRODUCTS

Apart from our usual grades, from 2009 crop will be able to offer walnut kernels to the size as per buyer's specifications:

  • Caramelized  or sugar coated walnut kernel pieces
  • Roasted small light pieces and crumbs with very low microbiological values.

OUR QUALITY
All our industrial grade walnut kernels like Light Broken and Light Amber Broken will be three times laser cleaned and passed through metal detector designed to detect metal contamination of 1.5mm Ferrous and 2.0mm Non Ferrous and 2.5 mm Stainless Steel Metals for ferrous and non-ferrous metals and our walnut kernels are far cleaner than our competition from India, China and Moldova. Moreover, our walnut kernels prior to production have very low microbiological load as these will go through process of microbiological reduction using totally natural means of steam and vacuum and we have installed pressurized CO2 Chamber.

CERTIFICATIONS
We are certified by ECOCERT since 1995 for organic walnut kernels.
We are ISO 9001 : 2000 certified for processing of walnut kernels.
We are following HACCP plan and will be due for certification during this month.
We will go for IFS certification by end of this year.
We are planning for fair trade certification.

Quality Control and Analysis
All production and dispatch is analyzed for physical, chemical and microbiological values and data recorded on forms which form part of shipment documents.

Traceability: Every supply is labeled with ean coding at incoming, processing, packing and dispatch and every carton shipped can be traced back to the grower/collector from which it originated. The same ean code is maintained from supply, processing to packing of a particular lot. The ean code is affixed on each packed carton.

Training: A fortnightly training program has been installed and practiced for production, quality control, administrative and sales staff and record of training is maintained in register.

IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED TO BE INSTALLED DURING 2009 IN THE FACTORY.
As a continuous endeavor to improve quality and offer better product in taste, aroma, low physical, chemical and microbiological values, an investment of about Euro 1 million is planned as following.

Installation of another bigger laser sorter, we will be the only Indian factory to have two lasers sorters.
Construction of new ultra modern 2000 square meters go-down.
Conversion of all storage to steel silos to prevent all contamination and drastically improve hygiene and microbiological values.
Installation of very sophisticated processing system, from drying to storage to laser sorting to vacuum packing in unbroken flow on poly urethane conveyor belts.
Conversion of entire existing and new construction flooring to epoxy (poly urethane) flooring, about 5000 meters of floor area.

With above changes, we will be able to supply excellent quality walnut kernels with extremely low to negligible count of shell pieces per metric ton and very low microbiological load, which none of our competition can match.

PROCESSING FACILITIES AND LIST OF MACHINERY:
A state of art processing factory was installed in 1999 at 51, Phase 1, Industrial Estate, Gangyal with following facilities:
Cold storage of 2600 cubic meters.
Additional storage of 3200 square meters.
Laser sorter LS 9000 purchased from BEST to give a more uniform product free of foreign matter.
Pneumatic specific gravity graders to take out lighter impurities.
Size graders for grading walnut kernels into halves, quarters, broken and pieces.

Conveyor belts for final manual processing to take out undesirables as there is no perfect substitute for human eye.
Nitrogen Gas Generator with technology and molecule sieves imported from Carbotech Germany, which ensures 99.9% purity in Nitrogen flushed.
Installation of Pressurized CO2 chamber.
Installation of a chamber using steam and vacuum for reduction in microbiological micro-organisms through total natural means.
Installation of bar coding (EAN CODING) at incoming, processing, production and dispatch to ensure 100% traceability of a particular carton with the consumer to dispatch to production to a particular purchase.
Heavy investment in hygienic flooring.
Top class laboratory.
Batch dryers, whereby walnut kernels are dried gently at two stages.
Installation of metal detectors at both processing lines.

We are committed to supplying our buyers a totally faultless quality and to that direction we have adopted a policy of continuous technological improvement.
